'Not 1 Yes but 2': The Voice Contestant Celebrates Getting Picked by Proposing to Girlfriend

Posted on

Denton Arnell had a lot to celebrate on Monday night’s episode of The Voice after he went home with a fiancée and a coveted spot on coach John Legend‘s team.

First, the Chicago native wowed Legend with his rendition of “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake.

“Denton, welcome to Team Legend,” the EGOT winner said after turning his chair. “Your tone is wonderful. You took a song that could have been a lot less exciting, but I think you were really creative with the melody and made it your own, and I’m excited to have you on my team, brother.”

After hearing Legend’s praise, Arnell asked if he could bring his girlfriend, Tiffany, out on stage.

“Is it okay if I just share this moment with my girlfriend?” Arnell asked. As Tiffany was brought out, Legend, 40, cheekily asked, “Is she going to sing too?”

But Arnell soon revealed why he wanted Tiffany on stage: “Being that [Legend] gave me a yes, I wanted to see if Tiffany would give me a yes,” he said, to cheers and applause from the audience.

The proposal didn’t go off smoothly at first — as Arnell was getting down on one knee, the pair bumped heads — but Tiffany eventually said an emotional yes.

“Talk about a BUMP on the screen!!,” Arnell wrote on Twitter on Monday night. “LOL I want to say thank you ALL for your support! WOWWWW!!! What a great night!!! Not just 1 Yes but 2…..”

Legend then tweeted, “I think I win the award for best wingman ever. We both won tonight, Denton!”

Legend is currently making his coaching debut on The Voice, joining longtime Voice veterans Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

While the EGOT winner may have a resume that intimidates his fellow coaches, there’s one accomplishment missing that two of the other coaches possess.

I realize I’m the only man up here that hasn’t won Sexiest Man Alive,” Legend said to past PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive winners Levine (2013) and Shelton (2017) during the season premiere on Feb. 25. “I feel like if I’m on The Voice, that means I’m gonna get it.”

“That’s the EGOTSMA,” Levine, 39, quipped.

Though much has been made about Legend joining The Voice, Shelton previously told PEOPLE exclusively he’s not threatened in the least.

“I don’t know how deadly John is as a coach. I can only tell you that I have absolutely no faith in his ability to win this show,” says the country star, 42, who has won the show six times with his artists. “Not as long as I’m on, you know what I’m saying? I wanna beat him.”

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
